Starting Fare for Tokyo Taxis Downed to 410 JPY

In order to make short-distance rides of taxis service more convenient, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that from 30th January 2017 the starting fare for Taxi in Tokyo's 23 wards, Mitaka City and Musashino City(cities located in western Tokyo) would down from 730 JPY to 410 JPY.

The starting fare of 410 JPY applies to a first ride of 1,052 meters while the previous 730 JPY was for the first 2,000 meters. The ministry also announced that with the new system launched, travelling up to 2000 meters costs less while travelling farther than 6,500 meters cost more than the current system.

If you ride on a bus in Tokyo (Toei Bus), the fare is 210 JPY for one person. If you have two person (and maybe some big luggage) and are heading to somewhere within 1,052 meters, catching a taxi would be a good deal.

When you are not sure if you are catching a taxi with a starting fare of 410 JPY, you can just judge from the sticker on the window of the taxi. A taxi with new fare system has a sticker showing "First 410 JPY".
